RGIII is Racking Up the Endorsements

The Endorser
Typically, when the number one overall NFL draft pick is a quarterback, he gets most of the headlines in the endorsement field. This year, Robert Griffin III is changing that. As the number two player taken in the 2012 NFL draft, RGIII is racking up the early endorsements. Having already signed with Adidas, Griffin has now signed Evoshield. According to Darren Rovell of CNBC, RGIII carved the niche market out of his Adidas deal in order to sign with the sports protection company.
Evoshield makes protective gear for athletes. RGIII will be the company’s first NFL player to endorse the product. It is said that Griffin has worn the gear since his freshman days at Baylor. In the past, players have been reluctant to wear protective gear due to the bulk of the products. Often, professional athletes would not wear such protective products until after injuries have already occurred. In recent times, athletes have become much more proactive when it comes to preventing injuries, and sales of protective gear has been on a sharp rise. Evoshield feels RGIII is the perfect NFL star to endorse their product to shed the image that such gear is too bulky for performance.
Today, Evoshield is placing three protective items on its Web site, a girdle, a rib shirt and a protective arm sleeve. On July 1st, the football items will be available at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, and Eastbay.
While the battle on the football field has yet to begin, it appears that RGIII is winning the battle of endorsements over the number one overall pick, Andrew Luck. Of course, the performance on the field is what is most important is determining the value of a draft pick, but as of now, the Washington Redskins have got to be very happy that Griffin was left for their franchise to select. All eyes are on RGIII.

Despite the mounting lawsuits, injuries and preventative steps to avoid concussions in the game of professional football, there is at least one former player who doesn’t believe the hype. Former NFL running back Ricky Williams, who was taken with the fifth overall draft pick in 1999 by the New Orleans Saints and went on to play for Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens in the past 11 seasons,

LeBron Says Lakers Chose Right Play (With Video)

In search of the right play
This time of year, it seems anytime a star player’s team loses a game, that team or player comes under fire. Two nights ago, it was LeBron James who came under fire for passing to Dwyane Wade, who in turn missed a game tying lay-up with 16 seconds left, as the Miami Heat lost to the Indiana Pacers. Last night, while inbounding the ball in the final seconds with the Lakers were down by one, Metta World Peace bypassed (a not so opened) Kobe Bryant, and passed to a wide opened Steve Blake for a good look and three-point attempt. Blake missed and the Lakers lost.
Today, after the Heat’s shoot around, LeBron James offered his take on the Lakers’ play and World Peace’s decision. According to Ira Winderman, of the Sun Sentinal, here’s what James said:
Here’s a sports reality, folks…Sometimes you can make the right play, and the results simply don’t turn out the way you would wish. This is something athletes must deal with. For some reason, fans are the ones who have the biggest problems living with this fact. Deal with it…I’d rather see players take open shots than have one guy shoot bad and highly contested shots. The game of basketball doesn’t allow for the players to press rewind on the “court DVR” anytime something goes wrong. Lebron James is right on this one. Metta World Peace’s decision was the right basketball play.
Here’s the final two minutes of last night’s Lakers/Thunder game:
