LeBron Says Lakers Chose Right Play (With Video)

May 17, 2012 in NBA

In search of the right play

This time of year, it seems anytime a star player’s team loses a game, that team or player comes under fire. Two nights ago, it was LeBron James who came under fire for passing to Dwyane Wade, who in turn missed a game tying lay-up with 16 seconds left, as the Miami Heat lost to the Indiana Pacers. Last night, while inbounding the ball in the final seconds with the Lakers were down by one, Metta World Peace bypassed (a not so opened) Kobe Bryant, and passed to a wide opened Steve Blake for a good look and three-point attempt. Blake missed and the Lakers lost.

Today, after the Heat’s shoot around, LeBron James offered his take on the Lakers’ play and World Peace’s decision. According to Ira Winderman, of the Sun Sentinal, here’s what James said:

I thought it was a great play…You guys know my answer. I thought it was a great play…Those are the same shots that Derek Fisher has hit multiple times for the Lakers… if Steve Blake makes that shot, then it’s a whole different storyline. You guys know how it works… Ron Artest (Metta World Peace) made the perfect play, and [Blake] just missed it. You make that shot, you miss it, the storyline gets changed.

Here’s a sports reality, folks…Sometimes you can make the right play, and the results simply don’t turn out the way you would wish. This is something athletes must deal with. For some reason,  fans are the ones who have the biggest problems living with this fact. Deal with it…I’d rather see players take open shots than have one guy shoot bad and highly contested shots. The game of basketball doesn’t allow for the players to press rewind on the “court DVR” anytime something goes wrong. Lebron James is right on this one. Metta World Peace’s decision was the right basketball play.

Here’s the final two minutes of last night’s Lakers/Thunder game:

RGIII is Racking Up the Endorsements

May 17, 2012 in NFL

The Endorser

Typically, when the number one overall NFL draft pick is a quarterback, he gets most of the headlines in the endorsement field. This year, Robert Griffin III is changing that. As the number two player taken in the 2012 NFL draft, RGIII is racking up the early endorsements. Having already signed with Adidas, Griffin has now signed Evoshield. According to Darren Rovell of CNBC, RGIII carved the niche market out of his Adidas deal in order to sign with the sports protection company.

Evoshield makes protective gear for athletes. RGIII will be the company’s first NFL player to endorse the product. It is said that Griffin has worn the gear since his freshman days at Baylor. In the past, players have been reluctant to wear protective gear due to the bulk of the products. Often, professional athletes would not wear such protective products until after injuries have already occurred. In recent times, athletes have become much more proactive when it comes to preventing injuries, and sales of protective gear has been on a sharp rise. Evoshield feels RGIII is the perfect NFL star to endorse their product to shed the image that such gear is too bulky for performance.

Today, Evoshield is placing three protective items on its Web site, a girdle, a rib shirt and a protective arm sleeve. On July 1st, the football items will be available at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Sports Authority, and Eastbay.

While the battle on the football field has yet to begin, it appears that RGIII is winning the battle of endorsements over the number one overall pick, Andrew Luck. Of course, the performance on the field is what is most important is determining the value of a draft pick, but as of now, the Washington Redskins have got to be very happy that Griffin was left for their franchise to select. All eyes are on RGIII.

Breaking News: Vilma is Suing Goodell

May 17, 2012 in Breaking News, NFL

Preparing to sue?

There has been a firestorm surrounding the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal, and the fire is spreading. According to Larry Holder, Saints reporter for CBSSports.com, Jonathan Vilma is suing NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for defamation. This is going to be very interesting how this plays out. If a suit like this goes all the way to trial, it is very likely that plenty of unknown information will be disclosed to the public regarding this scandal. This is surely not good news for the Saints or the NFL.

Jonathan Vilma was recently suspended for a complete year by Roger Goodell and the NFL for his part in the New Orleans Saints “Bounty Scandal.” Now, Vilma is fighting back. Stay tuned, folks. This is going to get hot. Here’s the Larry Holder tweet:

Andrew Bynum: “The Lakers are better than Santa Claus”

May 17, 2012 in NBA

Andrew Bynum has become a regular contributor in many sports blogs these days, and not for the right reasons. During the hotly contested Game 2, victory seemed imminent. Then, like a horrible ending to a good movie, the Lakers blew the game. Probably their best shot at making this an interesting series, came some interesting quotes by the newest Laker pariah.

According to Lakers reporter Mike Trudell via Twitter:

If that wasn’t enough, Bynum was also spotted laughing while walking off the court…this kid just doesn’t get it.

VIDEO: Super HUGE 76ers Fan Belly Dances For Charles Barkley

May 17, 2012 in NBA

Excuse me for a second…I’m still laughing at this video.

In response to Chuck and Shaq’s, “Shirt off” competition, this husky fan had a little fun at his own expense. I’m not sure I’d be this happy if my team got spanked at home in a playoff game, but who am I to judge, my Knicks were embarrassed in the first round.

I lost it when they Photoshop Chuck’s face on the body at the end. Them boys over at TNT seem to be having a little too much fun lately.

Ricky Williams “Doesn’t Buy” That Football Causes Concussions

May 16, 2012 in NFL

Despite the mounting lawsuits, injuries and preventative steps to avoid concussions in the game of professional football, there is at least one former player who doesn’t believe the hype. Former NFL running back Ricky Williams, who was taken with the fifth overall draft pick in 1999 by the New Orleans Saints and went on to play for Miami Dolphins and Baltimore Ravens in the past 11 seasons, told ESPN’s Dan LeBatard in a radio interview that he “doesn’t buy” the link between playing football and concussions.
