Arguably biggest bust in NBA history has “tryout” to play for China team

Former number one overall pick, Greg Oden, will have a tryout in China to play for Jiangsu. Yes, a “tryout” that will last one week. Oden hopes to catch on in the Chinese Basketball Association for one year.

One of the most disappointing No. 1 draft picks in NBA history is taking his game to China

Greg Oden will have a one-week tryout with Jiangsu of the Chinese Basketball Association, where he is hoping to sign a one-year deal.

The sad story and fall of the seven-foot “can’t miss” center out of Ohio State continues. During his lone college season, Oden was considered the next can’t miss star big man. Unfortunately, injuries kept Oden off the court and his talent never came to fruition.

At 27 years-old, Oden theoretically is young enough to still carve out a niche in the NBA for the next several years. But off the court troubles coupled with perpetual injuries has kept him from hanging onto a team in the NBA.

As an NBA fan, I hope Oden can make the team over in China. Maybe this could be the fresh start Oden needs. The sad reality is that judging from Oden’s history, this will just be another brief stop in the downward spiraling career of one of the most disappointing draft busts in NBA history.
