Avalanche Plagued With Injuries, But Still Winning
When teams are riddled with injuries, there is typically a clear cut sign that it will be a tough sledding to sustain momentum moving forward. Roster moves must be made to fill vacancies , such as promoting backups, signing freeagents and cutting players to save cap space . It usually breaks the chemistry of a team. But don’t tell that to the Colorado Avalanche.Coach Patrick Roy’s group has definitely been a resilient bunch of players lately. In a press conference about the team’s status, Roy had this to say,
“I have to bring my paper, we have so many guys on the injury list.”
The Avs are 9-3-1 on the month of January and are finding ways to capitalize on many of their weaknesses. What’s even more impressive about Colorado’s hot streak is not even the amount of games they’ve won, but who they’ve actually beaten. If you look at their schedule, the Avs have done some fine work on multiple potential playoff teams like Toronto or Minnesota.
One of those teams worth mentioning, includes the defending Champion Chicago Black Hawks. It’s no easy task to get by the glove of Hawks goalie Cory Crawford, but to put up three goals on him, is definitely an accomplishment in itself. If the Avalanche can have this much success at 75 percent and half of the team on the bench, just imagine the damage they’ll be capable of, when they are completely healthy. Perhaps a second Stanley Cup may not be such a far-fetched idea, for the 2013-2014 Colorado Avalanche.
