Marc-Andre Fleury’s Stadium Series helmet pays homage to Steelers
The NHL’s Stadium Series has put on two great hockey games in two baseball stadiums, Yankee Stadium and Dodger Stadium. The final contest, between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chicago Blackhawks, will take place in Soldier Field, home of the NFL’s Chicago Bears.
Inspired by the football backdrop, Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury decided to make a helmet for the big game that looks like a Pittsburgh Steelers player. While the multicolored Steelers logo was left off, Fleury’s new helmet is all-black with a yellow stripe down the middle. It even has a mouth painted on the bottom to make it look like the helmet is only on top of his head!
While we’ve seen some special helmets this season, Fleury and his designer, Griffe Originale, deserves some major credit for originality.
