Oilers acquire G Fasth from Ducks
Viktor Fasth looked like he was the next big thing for Anaheim netminding in 2012-13, but thanks to a debilitating injury and the emergence of rookie Frederik Andersson, he became expendable. And today, he was dealt to the Edmonton Oilers, in exchange for two draft choices- a 2014 fifth-round selection, and a 2015 third-round selection.
Fasth began his Ducks career with a flawless 8-0-0 record during last year’s lockout-shortened season, leading to a two-year, $5.8M extension. A lower-body injury kept him to only five games this year (2-2-1 record, .885 save percentage, 2.95 goals-against average), and he subsequently slipped on the Ducks’ depth chart. Now, the 30-year-old Swedish goalie goes from a Cup contender to a perennial bottom feeder in an effort to restart his career.
