Ryane Clowe signs five-year, $24M deal with New Jersey
With David Clarkson set to test the waters of free agency, the New Jersey Devils were in the market for a new power forward. And now, it looks like they’ve got their replacement. The Devils inked Ryan Clowe to a five-year deal worth $24.25M on the first day of free agency.
Clowe, 30, spent most of his eight-year NHL career with the San Jose Sharks, before being traded to the New York Rangers at last season’s trade deadline. He’s had two 20+ goal seasons (22 in 2008-09 and 24 in 2010-11), and can add some secondary offense to his game as a hard-hitting checking winger.
Clowe’s played in 435 NHL games, notching 104 goals and 279 points. He was a sixth-round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks back in 2001.
