Stars prospect Winkler tragically found dead in Norway home
Tragedy strikes the hockey world yet again. On Wednesday, Dallas Stars prospect and Colorado College graduate Scott Winkler was found dead in his parent’s Norway home at the age of 23. Cause of death has yet to be determined, but officials with Colorado College say that his death was “unexpected.”
A native of Asker, Norway, Winkler was drafted by the Stars in 2008 out of the USHL while playing for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders in the 3rd round, 89th overall.
After being recruited by Colorado College, Winkler enrolled in Colorado Springs and spent four years with the Tigers, tallying 63 points in 120 career games. He set career highs in points last season with thirteen goals and fifteen assists for 28 points.
Winkler was a Colorado College graduate, having graduated on May 20th of this year with a bachelor’s degree in economics.
