In 1994, Saturday Night Live actor and former Nickelodeon star Kenan Thompson played Russ Tyler, a hockey player from Los Angeles in Disney’s  D2: The Mighty Ducks, staring Emilio Estevez. In the movie, Tyler introduces a new shot to Coach Bombay’s (Estevez) squad: the Knuckle Puck. The shot would come in handy against Team Iceland where Russ tied the game late. The game ended when Julie “The Cat” Gaffney stopped Gunner Stahl in the shootout.

But we’re not here to talk Disney movies.

What once was believed by this writer as pure Hollywood magic, the Knuckle Puck exists! Just ask Joakim Andersson.

Andersson scored in Monday night’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks with a shot that seemed to stand on its edge and “knuckle” past Hawks goalie Corey Crawford. Andersson took a pass form teammate Jakub Kindl and took his shot from 48 feet. The puck was on its edge when shot, creating the “knuckle” effect like in the movie.
