WATCH: Ryan Miller is really good at goaltending
For all those doubting who the starting goalie for the Americans will be in Sochi next month, Ryan Miller is putting those arguments to rest with each passing day. Miller made this insane save late in the third period on Washington’s Mikhail Grabovski to keep the game tied at 1-1.
Miller would later deny all three Capitals shooters, including Alexander Ovechkin and Niklas Backstrom, to help the Sabres to a 2-1 overtime victory.
Even though the team playing in front of him is far and away the NHL’s worst in terms of scoring goals, Miller has been standing on his head in an effort to keep the Sabres close to the rest of the Eastern Conference in the standings. Among goaltenders with at least 15 starts, Miller is tied for fifth in save percentage with .928. For comparison in that category, Jonathan Quick has a .909 and Jimmy Howard has a .913. And while his goals-against average was out of control during the Ron Rolston portion of the season, Miller now has a 2.58 in that category as well.
