The Madden football game for various gaming systems has been wildly popular since its inception in 1988. Since the mid-90′s, however, a different NFL star has graced the cover. Sometimes, this has triggered the “Madden Curse”, in which a player gets injured or has a down year the season after gracing the cover. However, none of that matters, as old school will meet new school via a fan vote to determine this year’s cover. The 25th Anniversary edition of Madden will feature either former Lions running back Barry Sanders or current Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson.
Peterson had a cake walk to the finals, winning his matchups with 64% of the fan vote or more. Sanders had much closer matchups in defeating Ray Lewis, Joe Montana, and Jerry Rice en route to his showdown with Peterson. Sanders was shocked he got by Rice, who is arguably the greatest football player of all-time – but if you’re asking Skip Bayless Michael Irvin was much better than Jerry Rice – *shakes head in disgust.* Sanders looks to make it two straight years of a Detroit Lion being on the cover, as last season Calvin Johnson beat out Cam Newton for the honor.
The winner will be revealed April 24th, the night before the 2013 NFL Draft.
