Brandon Barnes hits for the cycle while Brad Miller homers twice 88

Congratulations to Brandon Barnes for becoming the second player in the majors this season to hit for the cycle.  Mike Trout was the first to do it also against the Seattle Mariners back in May.  The rookie, Barnes, was the eighth player in Astros’ history to accomplish such a feat.  Luke Scott was the last Astros to do it back in 2006.

Barnes hit a home run in his first at-bat in the second inning followed by an RBI triple in the fourth.  In the sixth inning he collected the first of two singles only needing a double to complete the cycle.  His opportunity for a double came in the eighth inning when Brandon hit a rope down the right-field line.  You knew from the batter’s box he was going for two.  But if you take a look at this video, see if Brandon made it to second.

The ump was awfully generous!

Barnes ended up going 5 for 5 for the night hitting a single in the ninth inning.  However, would you believe he was upstaged by another rookie. Seattle Mariners’ leadoff man, Brad Miller had a night to remember as well. Miller hit his first career major league home run followed by his second one. He stole the show going 3 for 5 with 5RBI, scoring twice and walking once.  Seattle ended up winning the game 10-7.
