There are few players of today’s era (okay, literally yesterday’s era) that are more respected than Chipper Jones. He played the game, did it the right way, battled through injuries, won a World Series, played in three, 8 All Star games, career .303, 468 home runs.
So after a clearly blown home run call by crew chief Angel Hernandez in the Oakland Athletics vs. Cleveland Indians game Wednesday night, even with instant replay, Chipper took to Twitter to ask the tough questions. Perhaps he’s had a dustup with Angel Hernandez before, his career (1993-2012) completely has overlapped Hernandez (1993-2013).
Chipper expresses frustration and demands accountability via tweets:
Since I can’t be fined for ripping umpires anymore, let me take this opportunity to express my displeasure w/ Angel Hernandez.

Even worse than that, there were 2 other umpires looking at it with him. What the hell were they lookin at?? Musta been “get away day”!

What good is instant replay if u don’t have umpires who interpret it correctly? Some course of action has to be taken w/ umps. #enuffisenuff

I can see the powers that be in the MLB offices, rolling their eyes, thinking to themselves, “oh no, Angel is at it again”!

It’s one thing for media and fans to take after an ump and a situation, it’s another for a relative disinterested third party pointing out the obvious.
