Los Angeles Angels ace Jered Weaver and his wife welcomed their first child into the world on Friday, Aden David Weaver. The name Aden was chosen with special meaning, in honor of Weaver’s late teammate, Nick Adenhart, who was killed by a drunk driver in April 2009, when he and Jered were both part of the Angels staff. The Los Angeles Angels confirmed the name association via a Tweet:
We have a new Angel! Congrats to Jered Weaver and wife Kristin who welcomed their first child today, Aden David Weaver!

For those asking, the Weavers did in fact spell their new son’s name Aden in honor of Nick Adenhart.

Jered always honors his late teammate by tracing his initials in the dirt behind the mound before every start. There can’t possibly be a way to honor a lost loved one than to name your first born son, further showing his love of the departed.
