A great way to endear yourself to a new team is to get a big hit, for lots of runs, against a division (and regional) rival, at home. Check (home run), check (make that a grand slam), check (Boo Reds), and check (Ike loves PNC Park) for new Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Ike Davis. The newly liked Ike tees off against the rival Cincinnati Reds to send the Pirates to a 2-run lead (from a two run deficit) (via MLB.com):
He even broke his bat in the process (it died a hero). Ike Davis really really doesn’t like the Reds. He also touched them up a couple of weeks ago for a walk-off grand slam. His 9 RBI are relatively low for the 8 he has on those two plays. He must be the first player to hit two grand slams against the same team while playing for two different teams before April 22. I’m calling it.
But for Ike, he goes from a serious rebuilding team to one of the youngest teams with high expectation. And he’s already contributing.
