WATCH: Yankees Core Four reunited for first pitch in Derek Jeter’s final home opener 88

It’s only been a week of the regular season, but every day it seems like we have another “last first” something with Derek Jeter.  Last first Spring Training at bat.  Last first Opening Day game.  Last first hit.  Last first win.  Today at Yankee Stadium, in his last first home opener, there was definitely an aura of sentimentality as the fellow members of the Yankees “Core Four”, that being the four players that won all five World Series titles during the Jeter era, reunited for the first pitch.  Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte threw to Jorge Posada, and the honoree himself, Derek Jeter.  Watch (via MLB.com) as the old gang got back together (for the last time with one of them active in a first game at Yankee Stadium):

Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte retired after the 2013 season, while Posado hung up the “tools of ignorance” after the 2011 season.  Pettitte might as well just be traveling with Jeter, as he made appearances in Houston last week for Jeter’s “last first” opening series.  Now, throughout the some 15 more last stadiums Jeter visits, he will surely be showered with local gifts and recognition from opposing fans.  Get ready for a lot more last firsts, then buck up for a lot of last lasts.  Which Yankees fans hope include his last hoisting of the Commissioners Trophy for the Bronx Bombers.
