Yankees injury situation grows even more grim if that’s possible 75

Yankees-injuriesJust when you think it can’t get any worse in the Bronx.  It does.  News today from the New York Yankees includes Mark Teixeira’s wrist not recovering and needing to go back on the disabled list.  And Kevin Youkilis is facing surgery for a herniated disk and is probably lost for 3 months, if not the season.

This, of course, with Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez still sidelined.  Curtis Granderson is snake bit with two separate injuries and on the DL.  As is Francisco Cervelli.

My opinion (and that of their hitting coach) is that Teixeira was rushed back.  The type of injury he had was one that is not completely healed after a month or two. But I think he, his agent, the Yankees, and the fans just willed him to be back too soon.

This has turned the Yankees into an open-checkbook, we have to sign whoever is best.  Bring in Lyle Overbay, Travis Hafner, Vernon Wells, and Brennan Boesch.  This isn’t your Yankees hitting on all cylinders that can compete with the Tigers and Athletics and Orioles and Red Sox.

My predict, Teixeira, Jeter, A-Rod, Granderson, and Youkilis all have no meaningful contributions to the pennant run. And that’s a non-impactful postseason for the Bronx Bombers this year, and probably a tilt toward rebuilding.

RIP the Yankees of the Jeter era.  Long live a rebuilding exercise.
