Hardball Talk’s Craig Calcaterra recites a quote made by Jayson Werth on his 2011 season.
“I feel confident about this season and this team and where I’m at and what I’ve done. Last year is just one year. I got six more years on this contract, and I plan on playing after this contract. I’ll look back and 2011 will be a fart in the wind.”
- Jayson Werth
It’s not the perfect metaphor to use, but I guess it gets the point across.
After three straight 5.0+ WAR seasons which earned him his 7 year $126 million contract from the Nationals, Werth dipped down to a 2.5 WAR. He had an overall down year. Every major statistic saw regression except for his K% which saw an increase. And just so you know increasing in strikeouts is bad.
I wish Werth luck in the next six years of his contract.
