Browns, Haden begin talks on long-term deal.

  • Jim Racalto

Tuesday, the Cleveland Browns underwent a complete front-office overhaul. Despite the sudden changes in that department, locking up shutdown cornerback Joe Haden remains their number one personnel priority. Haden is entering the final year of his rookie contract and will be paid upwards of $6 million for 2014.

However, Haden, at 24, is one of the best young corners in the game. He is the anchor of a vastly improved Browns defense that finished 8th against the pass in 2013. Albert Breer reported that the Browns reached out to Haden’s representatives to begin the early stages of negotiating a new contract. With so much sudden change happening in Cleveland this week,  it was important for the Browns to get this process started and move forward.

With other young star corners like Richard Sherman and Patrick Peterson also likely to score huge contracts, whatever Haden receives will most likely set the bar for the market at the position.
