Per a report from Pro Football Talk, the up and coming Buffalo Bills are looking to make waves early on this week once free agency begins at 4:00pm on March 13th.
Nix immediately addressed bringing in a pass rusher as well as filling a few other problem areas. I have personally seen recently resigned receiver Stevie Johnson sending messages via Twitter to the biggest free agent receiver, Vincent Jackson, in an attempt to coax him to Buffalo. Bills GM Buddy Nix spoke on these aspects:
The Bills resigned Stevie Johnson, and now plan to make noise early in free agency.
“We’d like to be out of the business by Friday. The big splash for us could be over in a week…I’m excited that players have enough faith in our program that they reach out to their peers to speak well about the Bills.”
Despite a disappointing 6-10 finish last season after starting 5-2, there is excitement mounting in Upstate New York concerning the Bills. They are a few filled holes away from being a legitimate playoff contender. They should capably fill these holes during the free agency period and the draft, the most glaring needs being a pass rusher on the edge of the newly implemented 4-3 defense, a speedy deep threat at receiver, and offensive tackle.
Nix addressed these needs by saying:
“You have to fill as many needs in free agency since it comes first. Then you add to your depth in the draft.”
It appears for the first time in a long time the Bills brass is committed to doing whatever it takes to field a competitive and consistent team. I know Bills fans are starving for a winner, and that time is not far off.
