Apparently Chip Kelly needs less than 48 hours to make up his career mind. According to reports, the Oregon Head Football Coach will decide by tonight (Saturday January 5) whether or not to accept one of the perceived multiple NFL offers or to stay in college. Kelly has been the hottest name on the NFL market with six teams now with head coaching vacancies. Oregon gave permission to talk to Kelly, but simply asked that teams wait until after the Fiesta Bowl, which concluded with a resounding Duck victory Thursday night. Since then, teams have lined up charters to Arizona to chat with the hot commodity.
There are some questions whether his up-tempo style of play that relies on superior team speed will translate to the NFL. But it’s clear many teams are willing to take the chance, given that college offenses of late have been leading the NFL in terms of ingenuity and style with more Wildcat, dual threat quarterbacks, and H-back schemes.
The short list of teams that are pursing Kelly include the Cleveland Browns, Philadelphia Eagles, and Buffalo Bills; the Browns and Eagles are considered favorites.
