Landon Donovan and company gave the sold out crowd  at M&T Bank Stadium a lot to cheer about on Sunday afternoon. The Americans cruised past El Salvador in the Gold Cup Quarterfinals and will meet the winner of Honduras and Costa Rica in Dallas on Wednesday.

The US struck early and often when both Clarence Goodwin and Joe Corona scored back-to-back within eight minutes of

each other.  But the goal of the night went to Eddie Johnson who checked into the game late and scored a goal on a beautiful header! Donovan himself registered four points despite the fact that assists aren’t kept during the Gold Cup. Mix Diskerud also scored for the Americans, who have now won nine straight International matches.

Head coach Jurgen Klinsmann had this to say about Donovan’s performance:

“I think Landon proved again today how valuable he is and now he can make a difference. This game was important for coaches to see who is a difference maker. Overall, we see our team clicking more and playing better and better.”

El Salvador dropped to 1-19-7 overall against the Americans.
