Desmond autographs baby, has great night at the plate

  • Michael Prosser

Every athlete has been asked for an autograph at some point in their career, but what happened to Ian Desmond of the Washington Nationals last night still seems unusual to the average sports fan.

Before last night’s game against the Miami Marlins, Desmond signed Washington DC resident David M. Smith’s (are you sitting down) infant child. Yes fans he signed a baby! To make the moment seem much cooler, Desmond went 3-4 at the dish with a stolen base and the go-ahead RBI in the 7th inning in a 4-3 victory.

Since Desmond had a great night at the plate, one must raise the question that had Desmond signed one baby a night from the beginning of the season to the end, would the Nationals still be sitting 13 games behind the Atlanta Braves, who’s magic number to clinch the NL East is now 18? Who’s to really say, but for David Smith and his baby, it will be a moment they never forget.
