O’s Machado out 6-8 weeks with torn ligament
Just when you thought the climb to the Playoffs was hard enough Oriole’s fans, now you’re going to have to do it without Manny Machado. The team’s official Twitter announced that Machado will miss 6-8 weeks with a torn Medial Patellofemeral Ligament in his left leg.

In what comes at the worst possible time, the O’s are still battling for one of the two final Wild Card spots despite being 5
games back going into the last week of the Regular Season. While a playoff birth seems unlikely (though miracles have happened before) it will be a much tougher battle without the young star at the Hot Corner.
A native of Hialeah, Florida, Machado was the 3rd overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft. Showing a vast improvement from last year’s Rookie campaign, Machado hit .283 with 14 homers and 71 RBIs. Machado injured his knee during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays, and was carted off on a stretcher. The team expects Machado to be ready for Training Camp and the beginning of next season.
