Wizards Martell Webster out 3-5 months after back surgery
Washington Wizards small forward Martell Webster will miss 3-5 months after undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disc in his back, the team has announced. Webster injured his back last week during workouts at the Wizards training facility.
The injury is certainly a blow for a team that is coming off of its first playoff run in years and may possibly lose Trevor Ariza in free agency this offseason. In light of this news, last seasons 3rd overall pick Otto Porter will need to step up in the 3-spot for Washington after a very pedestrian rookie campaign.
Webster, the 6th overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft, has developed into a potent bench scorer for the Wizards. Last season Webster averaged 9.7 points, 2.8 rebounds and 27.7 minutes in 78 games – including 13 starts – while shooting a solid .392% from three point land.
Webster will begin rehabilitation efforts immediately.
