Ravens’ Jacoby Jones out 4-6 weeks with sprained MCL

  • Meaghan Frazier

Despite getting blown out by Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, the Baltimore Ravens suffered a lot more than a 47-29 loss. Ravens’ star player and Super Bowl XLVII “hero” Jacoby Jones suffered an apparent MCL sprain after accidentally colliding with teammate Brynden Trawick while trying to catch a punt early in the second quarter.

Clifton Brown of CSN has reported that Jones’s return is doubtful but is expected to be sidelined without surgery for 4-6 weeks. Marlon Brown is the only player listed as an understudy for Jones but their is six other active receivers if they needed to be pulled up. Gerrard Sheppard would also be able to cover Jones during his absence, Sheppard has a spot on the practice squad and signed with the Ravens as a rookie free agent in May of this year.

But Jones will most likely remain on the 53-man roster.  Short-term injured reserve, which would knock Jones out for at least eight weeks, isn’t an option because the one-per-team designation was used earlier this week on tight end Dennis Pitta.

Although the Ravens have been taking hits left and right to their starting lineup, the speedy recovery of Jones will be well awaited for by fans, teammates, and coaches.
