Redskins re-sign safety Brandon Meriweather
— Washington Redskins (@Redskins) March 18, 2014
After a week of testing free agency, safety Brandon Meriweather has returned to the Washington Redskins for a third season.
Meriweather returns despite his last two years being marred with injuries and reckless play that has drawn fines and suspensions. Safety is a position of need for the Redskins but they were unable to lure one of the top rated free-agent safeties such as Jarius Byrd who joined the New Orleans Saints.
Meriweather was originally drafted by the New England Patriots in the first round (27th overall) in the 2007 NFL Draft. After leaving the Patriots in 2010, he spent a year with the Chicago Bears before joining the Redskins in 2012.
The 30-year old safety has recorded 53 tackles, three interceptions and a sack for the Redskins.
