Capitals’ Nicklas Backstrom fails Olympic doping test
It is being reported that Washington Capitals’ and Sweden forward Nicklas Backstrom has failed an Olympic doping test. Backstrom is currently competing in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia with the Swedish hockey team.
A member of Sweden’s Olympic Committee revealed the news on Sunday afternoon, saying that Backstrom had tested positive for a substance found in an allergy medication that he has taken for years.
Backstrom was on the lineup to face Canada in the gold medal game, but was scratced off with no reason given. Canada wet on to win the game 3-0 relegating Sweden to claiming the silver medal.
Backstrom currently has 11 goals in 59 games for the Capitals with 45 assists. He’s the sixth athlete to fail a doping test at the Sochii Game.
