Caps’ Grabovski takes skateblade to the face against former team
It wasn’t just another game for Capitals center Mikhail Grabovski against the Toronto Maple Leafs; it was a return to his former team. A team that traded defenseman Greg Pateryn and a second round pick in 2010 (which in turned was traded to Boston who selected London Knights winger Jared Knight) but then did not give him the right financial compensation during the off season. It was then he signed a one year deal with the Capitals and has been a valid part in Coach Adam Oates’ offense.
But Grabs, as he’s called by fans and teammates, didn’t have as great a home coming as expected.
In the waning seconds of the 2nd period, Grabovski was tailing Leaf’s forward David Clarkson when he fell down on the ice. But if that wasn’t enough, Clarkson’s skate blade had an interesting encounter with Grabovski’s face. Yes there was blood. Grabovski was taken off the ice, and received 20 stitches to close up the wound.
And how do Leafs’ fans respond? Oh they just booed their former top line center; a class act that rivals nobody except the city’s mayor.
Toronto would best the Capitals in a shootout on a goal by Joffery Lupul.
