WATCH: Braden Holtby make “miraculous” save with end of stick
It’s been the Philipp Grubauer show for the past month in DC, and Braden Holtby has seen just four games in that time. But he made the most of his time in net tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
On a night where both Grubauer, and the team didn’t look anything like the Capitals that fans are used to seeing (you know the ones that won?) Holtby was called on tonight to relieve the German-born rookie and was tested often, mostly by Jackets forward and 24-year old Matt Calvert. But Calvert soon found out what the rest of Washington has already known: Braden Holtby protects the net!
Calvert wristed a shot on goal, a shot that looked like it was all but in, that is until HoltBeast took over, saving the puck with the knob of his stick! Okay so it wasn’t his flashiest save, and it no where near rivals the save Grubi made against the Lightning last week when he went splits up, but it was the only good thing to happen in tonight’s 5-1 drubbing. Heck I’ll even argue that Calvert just plain missed, but a save is a save. I mean the net was starting to look like a coal bin tonight! Anyways check it out; HoltBeast’s “miraculous” save
