WATCH: Nate Schmidt score 1st NHL goal

  • Michael Prosser

December 7th; not only is it a historic day in American history with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, but it’s also a historic day in the life and career of young Nate Schmidt.

The undrafted rookie defenseman out of the University of Minnesota scored his first NHL goal against Marek Mazanec, a 6th round pick in 2012 and the NHL’s Rookie of the Month for the month of November. Schmidt took a feed from Martin Erat, playing against his former team, and blasted a shot from the point over Mazanec’s outstretched left leg.

Here’s how it sounded from the Voice of the Capitals, John Walton.
