49ers fans not happy seats on new San Francisco transit are in Seahawks colors

Ladies and gentlemen, can I please have your attention. I’ve just been handed an urgent and horrifying news story. I need all of you, to stop what you’re doing and listen.

The rivalry is real.

San Francisco 49er fans are angry that the new seats on the San Fransisco-area BART (Bay Area Rapid Transport) train are in Seattle Seahawks colors.  As we can see from the image below, the new seats will be lime green and blue.

It’s apparent that no one at the BART head office watches football because if they did, they probably wouldn’t have used those colors, the colors of the 49ers’ most bitter rivals.

The BART website goes into great detail about the seats and how they’re better and more comfortable than the old seats, but they don’t actually mention why neon green and blue were chosen.

Some 49er fans have spotted the new seats and are trying to do something about it.  They have started a petition on to try and get the people of BART to change the colors.

The petition reads:

To: Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), General Manager Grace Crunican

Please refrain from outfitting the seats in BART cars in neon green and blue, the colors of the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks (as per the picture on

The new cars are not expected to hit the tracks until 2015 so there’s a time still for BART to do the right thing.  Which would be to change them to red and gold.

In the last two years, the Seahawks and 49ers have formed a fierce rivalry on and off the field. It came to a head in the 2013 NFC Championship game which the Seahawks won.

You know a rivalry is for real when fans stat complaining about the color scheme for some new seats.  If these seats came out a few years ago when both teams were struggling to win seven games, there wouldn’t be such an outcry.
