49ers Want Kaepernick Contract Done Before Camp
Talks have been on and off in San Francisco concerning a big contract extension for 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. He has been a huge part of San Fran’s success since taking the starting job from Alex Smith.
Kaepernick looks to Ravens’ Joe Flacco’s huge six-year $120 million contract when negotiating his own for the red and gold, but talks stopped when the new-breed duel-threat quarterback was involved in an incident requiring a police investigation last month in Miami. That issue seems to be behind Kaepernick, and should resume talks.
The 49ers and Kaepernick have not been able to come to terms yet, but hope that some common ground can be settled upon that’s not as steep as Kap’s request for $20 million a year. Training camp begins in July, so the two sides have a large amount of time to make something happen as the franchise wants to get a deal done before camp begins.
