According to Packers teammate, Aaron Rodgers takes first-team reps

While Aaron Rodgers hasn’t been medically cleared to play yet, he also hasn’t been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. And according to tight end Andrew Quarless, Rodgers took some reps with the first-team offense during a portion of practice that was closed off to the media on Wednesday.

This is good news for Rodgers and the Pack, considering that last week he felt pain when doing simple movements in practice.

“[Rodgers] looked real good today,” Quarless said on Wednesday, via ESPNWisconsin.com. “It was good to see him out there, really working with the (No. 1) offense. He was out there before but wasn’t working as much with the offense, but today he took some offensive reps, which is a great thing for the team.”

When asked specifically if those offensive reps were first-team reps, Quarless replied “Yes, sir.”

Head coach Mike McCarthy said that he would evaluate his quarterback situation more on Thursday.

“We’ll see how he is tomorrow. We’ll set a plan for him again tomorrow,” McCarthy said. “Aaron still is not medically cleared, and really, I think it’s important to stay in-tune with that because the topic of ‘Is he playing in the game?’ versus ‘Is he medically cleared?’ — those are two totally different issues.”

McCarthy said Rodgers did practice Wednesday, but didn’t mention anything about taking first-team reps.

“Aaron’s obviously very important to our organization,” McCarthy said. “He’s the face of our franchise and until he’s medically cleared, just like any other player going through a significant injury, that’s really where the focus will be. But he practiced today in a limited fashion.”

Should Rodgers not be cleared to play against Dallas, Matt Flynn is expected to make his third straight start for Green Bay. With the playoff implications that this game holds, having Rodgers back would be huge. Should the Packers lose and the Bears or Lions win, the Packers would be all but eliminated from playoff contention.
