Normally, when athletes make outrageous comments, they get tossed into the “yeah right” bin. But when Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson talks, people listen. AP came up nine yards short of breaking the NFL single-season rushing record in 2012, and shortly after the season ended he said he thinks he can run for 2,500 yards. Four months have passed since then, and Peterson now has that mark listed as one of his goals for 2013:

From NFL.com:

“It’s not something I’m going to focus on early. I’ll let the chips fall where they may. I’ve got my bar set for 2,500 yards,” Peterson told SI.com recently. “If I can go over that, the record will be shattered. But ultimately I want a couple rings. You gotta start at one.”

The Vikings loaded up in the draft on defense with DL Shariff Floyd and CB Xavier Rhodes, and added WR Cordarrelle Patterson to pair with Greg Jennings. The play of QB Christian Ponder is still a question mark, but the Vikings look like they have another playoff run in the making. I for one will not question Adrian Peterson. He is the best back in the NFL, and while 2,500 yards seems like a stretch, if anyone can do it, AP can.
