Phoenix station KTVK-TV first reported, along with several NFL insider confirmations, that former Philadelphia Eagles head coach could take Ken Whisenhunt’s position as Arizona’s new head coach.  Both coaches were fired on ‘Black Monday’.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter along with CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora are both hearing the same thing.  One source told Schefter that Reid has a “95 percent” certainty to get the job.  La Canfora reported that Reid’s official interview will be on Wednesday.  Current Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton interviewed for the job Tuesday, and may talk with Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.

La Canfora also reported that Reid has already been working on assembling a staff.  He may be able to reunite with former Eagles personnel man and recently fired Cleveland Browns GM Tom Heckert, as well as former Browns head coach Pat Shurmer, former Eagles offensive and defensive assistant Juan Castillo, and former Eagles assistant and Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress.

Reid, if given the head coaching job in Arizona, would also be reunited with former Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb.  He played well enough when called upon to do so under Reid in Philadelphia that prompted the Cardinals to sign him to a six-year, $63 million contract in July of 2011.

Michael Bidwill, Cardinals team president, said on Monday that he’s not ready to give up on Kolb despite two terrible seasons of not meeting expectations.

“That’s one of the questions we will really focus on with the coaching staff candidates,” Bidwill said.  “How do we see about Kevin and his performance and how we can turn him into the quarterback of the future here for the Cardinals and make that decision, if he’s the right guy?”

Through Reid’s eyes, Kolb was the right guy back in 2007, and was able to get a second-round pick and CB Dominique Rogers-Cromartie in trading him.  Reid, after 14 years in Philadelphia, holds a 130-90-1 record in regular season play, along with a 10-9 record in the postseason.
