Andy Reid: Geno Smith in play for K.C. Chiefs’ No. 1 pick
When the Kansas City Chiefs traded their second round pick to San Francisco for quarterback Alex Smith, most believed the team would not be drafting a quarterback with their number one overall pick. Today, it looks like that might still be a possibility.
Today, Kansas City’s head coach Andy Reid announced that Geno Smith is still in the mix of the eight or ten draft picks the team is currently considering for their first round draft pick.
“I’m going to keep my eyes open on everybody. I think Geno is a good quarterback,” Reid said via Philly Mag’s Birds 24/7 blog. “We’ll just see how it all goes, get this workout thing going.”
It appears that Reid is simply trying to drive up the price and get a team to trade for the number one overall pick. If a team is in desperate need of a quarterback, they may have to look to trade up if they want to draft Geno Smith.
In fact, Reid told USA Today that a couple of teams have already expressed interest in trading with Kansas City for the number one overall pick.
Today’s comments seem like nothing more than a smoke screen in order to get a team to trade up to number one.
