Brandon Meriweather takes a shot at Brandon Marshall
Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather was suspended last Wednesday for two games after he delivered a pair of illegal hits last Sunday on Bears wide receivers Alshon Jeffrey and Brandon Marshall. The NFL later reduced the suspension to one game. Meriweather’s hit on Marshall prompted the Bears receiver to question whether or not the Redskins safety should be kicked out of the NFL.
“Guys like that really don’t understand that there is life after football,” Marshall said after the game. “I respect the league trying to better our game and guys like that, maybe he needs to get suspended or taken out of the game completely. I understand. I get it. I was one of those guys. I played defense growing up. I was a headhunter. Even sometimes on the offensive side, I played that way. But with rules in place, you’ve gotta respect it.
“Guys like that just don’t understand. Those are the guys that are in trouble. They really don’t have anything to do after football because they think it is all about football. Guys like that, it’s tough.”
Today, Meriweather spoke to Zac Boyer of The Washington Times and took a shot at Marshall for claiming he needed to be kicked out of the league.
According to Meriweather, he believes players who hit their girlfriends should be kicked out of the league as well.
“Everybody got their opinion,” Meriweather said. “He feel like I need to be kicked out of the league? You know, I feel like people who beat their girlfriends should be kicked out the league, too. So, you tell me who you’d rather have: Somebody who play aggressive on the field, or somebody who beat up their girlfriend? You know, everybody got their opinion, so that’s mine, that’s his.”
One of Marshall’s ex-girlfriends, Rasheedah Watley, filed a civil suit against Marshall for allegedly committing battery against her in 2007 and 2008. The case was dismissed in 2012. Marshall was also stabbed in the stomach by his wife Michi Nagomi-Marshall in April 2011.
Meriweather and Marshall will not face off again this season, but I am guessing next time the two play, there will be more than a few comments on and off of the field.
