Brandon Weeden: I want to be the guy
During the 2013 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns chose not to draft a quarterback, instead sticking with an open competition between Brandon Weeden and Jason Campbell. With a competition for the starting position, last year’s first round pick, Weeden says he is not worried about keeping the starting job.
Weeden believes he can be the guy to lead the Browns and hopes to earn the trust of head coach Rob Chudzinski and offensive coordinator Norv Turner.
“I hope they see not only what I do out here, but how I’m handling myself working and doing all of those other things,” Weeden said, via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon-Journal. “This means a lot to me. This is my job and I take it seriously and I want to be the guy. I want to build off last year, and I think we’re going to be a better football team and in a lot of ways I want to be a part of it.”
As Weeden turns 30 in October, he will have to show a vast improvement if expects to be with the team long-term.
New coaches normally want their own quarterback and it won’t be shocking if the Browns select a new quarterback in the 2014 NFL Draft.
That is, unless Weeden really does become “the guy” and has a terrific 2013 season.
