Brees confident deal gets done before camp
For some reason or another the New Orleans Saints have yet to extend franchise quarterback Drew Brees. With the July 16th deadline to extend Brees rapidly approaching the window to sign Brees is slowing closing. Brees has already stated that he will not sign the franchise tender and may even hold out if a deal is not reached.
However, while on Mike and Mike today Brees seemed confident a deal would get done in time. “I’ve always said, you would think this process would be a lot more simple than it is. It just always seems to be complicated, (I’m) still very confident that we’ll get a long-term deal done, and hopefully that will happen sooner than later.”
Brees later went on the Dan Patrick Show and stated he was isn’t motivated “to be the highest paid” player in football, but called for a fair deal (which could bring him very close).” He went on to add, “I’m very aware of where the Saints are at, and certainly where I’m at,” suggesting there was “a lot of time” before now and training camp.
After dealing with the bountygate scandal not extending Drew Brees would be a disaster for the New Orleans Saints. If he chose to sit out a portion of or all of the season the team will be in certainly be in trouble this year.
