Browns name Brandon Weeden their starting quarterback
Today, Cleveland Browns new head coach Rob Chudzinski has done what every one was expecting, as he named Brandon Weeden the team’s starting quarterback. Weeden has played well so far in the team’s two pre-season games, throwing for 229 yards, 3 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Chudzinski says Weeden gained the team’s trust and that is why he will be the starting quarterback.
“Brandon has earned this job. That’s extremely important to me. He’s gained my and his teammates complete trust,” Chudzinski said, via Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository.
Weeden’s competition was nearly non-existent as he faced off against Jason Campbell and Brian Hoyer for the starting job.
Even though most analysts knew Weeden would be named the starter, Chudzinski says he wanted to create competition to see how Weeden handled it.
“Everything about this process is wanting to see how [Weeden] reacted,” Chudzinski said. “Weeden has seized the opportunity and produced.”
Not only will the Browns have to rely on second-year running back Trent Richardson, but they will need consistent play from Brandon Weeden.
If the Browns expect to compete in the AFC North, they will need Weeden to continue his strong play from the pre-season.
For now, at least Weeden knows what we all expected, that he will be the team’s starting quarterback.
