During the 2012 NFL season, Detroit Lions wide receiver went off and eventually broke the single season record for receiving yards. Now it appears as though that record may be even more impressive. According to The Detroit News, Calvin Johnson played most of the season with at least two broken fingers.

While Johnson’s broken fingers were never listed on an injury report, he has been seen around Detroit with his hand in a wrap. During the season, Johnson did suffer from knee and ankle injuries that cost him practice time. Johnson also claimed to suffer a concussion with nerve damage during the season before backtracking due to concerns that the NFL would look into why the medical staff cleared Johnson for play.

While attending the NFL Scouting Combine, head coach Jim Schwartz would not comment on whether or not Johnson played through broken fingers.

“I am not going to comment on any of our players’ health,” he said. “But that’s not uncommon for a wide receiver.”

“We don’t have any injury reports this time of year,” Schwartz said. “And you know how I am about injuries.”

Johnson is not expected to miss any time next season but it definitely is intriguing if he played most of the season with two broken fingers.

One can only imagine what might happen if he was healthy the entire season.
