Cardinals are close, says Bruce Arians
The best team in the NFL is in the NFC West. The second best team in the NFL is also in the NFC West.
Is the third best team in the NFC West as well?
The Arizona Cardinals finished the year 10-6, and became the only team to beat Seattle at home in two years. They aren’t very far away from the elite teams of the NFL. And head coach Bruce Arians knows that.
“[W]e’re so excited about getting back because we know how close we are,” Arians said Thursday, via the York (Pa.) Dispatch. “We played San Francisco to two games that were winnable and then split with Seattle and split with St. Louis, so we have a chance to win our division and we know we’re a pretty good football team.”
It’s incredible to think of how far the NFC West has come. After sending a 7-9 Seahawks team to the playoffs just three years, the NFC West has made three straight appearances in the NFC Championship Game, brought home two conference championships and one Lombardi trophy. It’s not crazy to think that if Arizona manages to come out of the deadly NFC West on top, they could make it all the way to Super Bowl 49 (which is being played in Arizona) and win their first Lombardi trophy, just as the Seahawks did this year.
Thanks to Larry Fitzgerald restructuring his contract, the team now has over $9 million in cap space. They will likely look to make a big splash in the free agent market, trying to not only keep up with the elite teams in the NFL, but to become one of the elites.
