Cardinals try out internet sensation ‘Kickalicious’
With starting kicker Jay Feely pushing 40 years old and headed for free agency, the Arizona Cardinals are wasting no time looking for his replacement. And apparently, they’re looking to YouTube to find him.
The Cardinals hosted a tryout for internet sensation Havard Rugland, who is more commonly known as ‘Kickalicious’ on Wednesday.
Rugland, 29, impressed many people on YouTube with his video of himself kicking field goals from 50 plus yards, place kicking a football into a basketball hoop, and kicking a ball over a highway. The video, which has over 5.4 million views, can be seen here.
In fact, Rugland’s video even impressed NFL teams. Rugland has tried out for the Jets, Browns, and Lions, who signed him. Rugland even competed for the starting spot in Detroit with veteran kicker David Akers, who would eventually win the spot. Rugland went 3-for-3 with field goals from 33, 49, and 50 yards in the Lions’ 2013 preseason.
The Cardinals trying out a younger kicker so early in the offseason does not bode well for the team’s chances of resigning Feely. Although Feely has been fairly reliable in Arizona, and once almost single-handedly beat the Denver Broncos in 2010, he missed some key field goals in 2013. Being that he is 37 years old, it only makes sense that the Cardinals look to be making other plans.
