In February, Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said the team was hoping to sign quarterback Tony Romo to a long-term contract. Now, the team looks to be on the verge of extending Romo to a long-term contract.

On Tuesday, while at the owner’s meetings in Arizona, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones spoke about how close the team was to extending Romo to a long-term contract.

“I’m not concerned that we are looking at a drawn out thing here,” Jones said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “I’m not concerned that is going to in any way hamper any decision we want to make personal wise over the next few weeks.”

When asked if Jones was okay with saying that the team was close to extending Romo, he responded positively.

“I’m okay with (saying) that,” Jones said.

Romo had his best year in terms of passing yards last year with 4,903 yards but also tied his career high of 19 interceptions.

Romo will be 33 years old by the start of the 2013 season.
