Derrick Mason Retires in Baltimore

After 15 years in the NFL, Derrick Mason announces his retirement as a Baltimore Raven, a decision that he said was easy.  Although he ended his career with the Jets and Texans, his heart remained in Baltimore.  Despite the franchise’s short history, Mason in just 6 seasons is the all-time leader in yards and receptions.  He leaves his profession ranking 19th in NFL history in receiving yards.  It took the wide receiver some time to start ripping up the stat sheets. He recorded his first 1,000-yard season in Tennessee at age 27, and acquired three more in a row before he left Baltimore at age 31.  Mason retires stating, “My run is over.  It was a good one, and I’m happy.” On Mason, GM Ozzie Newsome said, “I don’t know if there is any one player over the span of their career that did more for this organization than Derrick Mason did.”
