Dolphins GM profanity towards a fan inspires “Fire Yourself” shirts

In case you missed it over the weekend, Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland called a fan an “a–hole” during autograph signing of Miami’s 35-13 win over Oakland at Sunlife Stadium on Sunday.

The name calling stemmed from a fan named Sean that approached Ireland and said “We need you to fire yourself.” Ireland patted the fan on the shoulder, said “Good one, a–hole”

Sean later called a Miami radio station to tell them of the events “I don’t begrudge the guy for not appreciating what I had to say,” Sean said. “I can’t tell you I wouldn’t respond any differently if someone said I should fire myself. By the same token, I’m not the general manager of a professional football team.

Ireland spoke with Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald and talked about the incident, and validated that it did indeed happen.

“It did happen at halftime and I was going back to my booth after seeing my wife and I did talk to several fans that were very nice,” Ireland said. “But as I’m walking back this guy introduces himself to me and says I should fire myself.”

“It caught me off-guard. I just turned and walked away but I did say the word. I regret I used the word I used. I thought I was using it under my breath. I guess I kind of said it loud enough that he could hear it. I literally said it under my breath. At the time I felt I handled the situation pretty good. Probably muttered it a little too loud. I regret that I said anything.”

And now, with the story verified, fans in Miami are having “Fireland” shirts made that say “We need you to fire yourself” complete with Dolphins colors and style of writing. Apparently since these shirts are selling, we imagine that Sean is not the only Fins fan asking for Ireland to be fired. Check out the shirt below!

  • payton, great quaterback, SUPERBOWL? YEA!

  • Brick-hand Sanders from the Steelers? Is Manning a receivers coach now? Manning was on his game. Weren’t the Chargers without their starting corners? Still played great. Broncos defense stuffing the Chargers running game was impressive. That 30 yarder floated in there nice. Is it me or does Peyton’s passes look like a 30 yard bomb? That crap won’t work in the playoffs when Ravens defenders are used to practicing against Flacco who throws 70-yarders.
