Eric Weddle: Chargers are the best team in the League
The San Diego Chargers have been major disappointments over the last few years. They’ve had the talent on paper, and once had an upper-echelon Quarterback, but times have changed.
Philip Rivers seems to have lost a big part of his game, their offensive line is sub-par, and they haven’t connected on defense like many thought they would.
This team looked to have quit on Norv Turner over the years, and their personnel never came together as one.
Turner is now gone, and the team looks to be motivated and ready to move forward under their new regime, and it has some players on the team talking.
Safety Eric Weddle says that they are the best team in the league, and new head coach Mike McCoy is a big reason for that.
“Now, shoot, I feel like we’re the best team in the league,” Weddle told the U-T San Diego via Around the League. “And a lot of that is because of coach (Mike) McCoy and the way he presents himself — the way he portrays what he wants. A lot of what you are as a team is attitude, and you can control that.”
It’s a bit of a stretch for him to think that, but the confidence that has been lacking in San Diego seems to be back.
Weddle is one of the NFL’s premier safeties, and his play has been one of the few bright spots of that team.
“I’m just excited. It’s a new year, a new belief. Until the season ends, I think we’re going to be the best.”
He’s right, it is a new year, and history has shown that teams can get from worst to first rather quickly, but is this a team that can do it?
Philip Rivers has to up his game, and this year he’ll be under a microscope. He’s shown that he can be one of the better passers in the league, but in his last two seasons he’s not been able to take care of the ball as he once did, turning it over at a fast pace. They have struggled along the offensive line, and they can only hope to get better in the running game with Ryan Mathews as their lead back.
Do you think the Chargers are a team that can be great if they get it all together?
Time will tell..
