Everyone Feels Shady McCoy Should Have More Carries Except Himself
LeSean McCoy, running back of the Philadelphia Eagles joined Angelo Cataldi on WIP radio station in Philadelphia today. He was asked several questions including the players-only meeting called on by quarterback Michael Vick, the week 8 Falcons loss, and his current workload.
Concerning the players-only meeting, McCoy had this to say:
“It shows how much character he has, just getting everybody on the same page. I think a lot of guys want to get things off their chest, talk about different situations playing out on the field. So I think it worked out well and was very productive. We really needed it.”
They indeed needed something after the once called ‘Dream Team’ fell to the undefeated Atlanta Falcons in week 8. Although the offense made no crucial mistakes, the defense was unable to stop the dominating Falcons attack. Head coach Andy Reid fired defensive coordinator Juan Castillo in an effort to better his defense, but it apparently has not worked.
“As a team we didn’t come out to play,” said McCoy when asked about the loss to Atlanta. “I don’t think we executed on both sides of the field. That’s what I think. We didn’t get it done. There’s no other way to put it or sugar-coat it or try to make it sound better. It is what it is.”
Many believe the Eagles are relying too much on their mobile quarterback and putting too much pressure on him. It seems everyone thinks McCoy should have more carries in this offense. Shady however, doesn’t agree.
“I feel like the coach is doing a good job. I think that we don’t need to run the ball so much or throw the ball so much to win. I think it’s balanced enough. I think people just need to be a little patient. I think that’s the biggest thing. When you start losing a couple of games in Philadelphia, everybody panics. And as a team, we can’t do that.”
The Eagles will take on a struggling New Orleans Saints team tonight for Monday Night Football. This game should be very telling as to how the Eagles are going to play for the rest of the season. If they can’t get the job done tonight against a poor defense, I’m not sure who they can get it done against.
