Jerry Jones: Felix Jones faster now that he’s in shape
The love affair between Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and running back Felix Jones continues today, after Jerry Jones said Felix Jones is faster now that he is in shape. Earlier this summer, after failing a conditioning test, Jerry Jones said he still expected Felix Jones to have a big year for the club.
“I’m not worried about him at all. From what I’ve seen out there, he’s got a chance to have a big year for us.”
After starting running back DeMarco Murray went down with an injury last week, it will be up to Felix Jones to shoulder the load of carries this weekend against the Carolina Panthers.
Despite failing the conditioning test in August, owner Jerry Jones said now that Felix Jones is healthy he looks quicker.
“Felix Jones is one of the most conscientious, hardest workers that I’ve been around as a football player,” Jerry Jones said on KRLD-FM, via the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “You’ve got to almost shoot him to get him off the practice field. So he works at it. Now, he did come in not the shape he wanted to be. I don’t have an answer for that, because that’s not typical of where he is. But since that time, he’s gotten quicker. He is quicker. Maybe he had a little extra pound or two that he shouldn’t have had or wouldn’t have had if he could do it over, but in my mind he’s ready to go. He’s quick. … He’s quicker at practice. You can see some of the quickness that he needs to have to have his game at its best.”
Jones ran for 92 yards against the Baltimore Ravens last week as the Cowboys fell short late and lost 31-29.
If nothing else, it is nice to know the love between Jerry Jones and Felix Jones hasn’t died down yet.
