Jets TE picks Pats in AFC Championship Game; Rex Ryan not happy
The Jets and Patriots have made the AFC East very fun to keep an eye on over the last couple of years.
There’s been more shots taken back and fourth over the years than probably any other rivalry in Sports, and it’s clear the two teams do not like each other.
So, it’s surprising that Jets TE Kellen Winslow said on Twitter that the Patriots will be facing the Broncos in the AFC Championship game.
“I got the pats vs broncos in AFC championship game and Panthers vs Seahawks in NFC championship,” the tight end said in a Twitter reply, via Kimberly Martin of Newsday.
Of course, the Tweet was deleted shortly after, probably after a backlash of mentions on his feed from Gang Green fans.
When Jets head coach Rex Ryan found out about it though, he said that Winslow needed to watch his mouth.
“He’s got to clean up his comments.” Ryan said via Martin.
To be fair to Winslow, he hasn’t been a part of that rivalry for very long – and he rightfully left his team out of Championship conversations. For him to give credit to a better team is fair, and he would have had to dig himself out of a deeper hole had he said the Jets would be vying for a Championship bid.
The Jets face the Raiders this weekend and have a chance to sneak into the playoffs, but they’ll be starting a struggling Geno Smith at quarterback one week after he was benched for lack of production.
If the Jets have any chance to jump into the playoff race, they’ll need Geno to play like he had in the first half of the season.
